What does it mean to be educated?

What does it mean to be educated. If education is costly they say try ignorance. That means that being educated is the best. So what is now the criteria of being educated- is it going to school, learning a trade , ... Does it mean that people who did not go to school are uneducated or what?.

If u say yes, before the advent of schools, what was the yardstick for being educated.
Do you know that some people go to school and stil remain uneducated.
That is what brought about the saying that " it's not enough that you go through school but let school pass thru you."
 Some did not go to school  and are educated- how come? This means we have to define what education is.

What is Education?
 Education can be defined as  as an act or process of developing and cultivating, (whether physically, mentally, or morally) ones mental activities or senses; the expansion, strengthening, and discipline, of ones mind, faculty, etc.; the forming and regulation of principles and character in order to prepare and fit for any calling or business by systematic instruction. The result of these, as determined by the knowledge skill, or discipline of character, acquired; the act or process of training by a prescribed or customary course of study or discipline.

 From the above definition it is seen that it is not going to school that makes one educated because if going to school is the only education needed how come then that people like Bill Gates who did not finish school is making it.

What is a school?
A school is an institution designed for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the supervision of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which is commonly compulsory. In these systems, students progress through a series of schools. The names for these schools vary by country (discussed in the Regional section below), but generally include primary school for young children and secondary school for teenagers who have completed primary education. An institution where higher education is taught, is commonly called a university college or university.

The bottom line is that school is just the beginning of education.

The development of what you learnt in school and how u put it into practise is what distinguish the educated or the uneducated.

 Educated people don't stop learning so keep learning today.
